Enner Valencia’s stoppage-time goal secured victory and the title for Boca Juniors in the final round of matches deciding Argentina’s 2026 championship. Former Fenerbahçe striker Enner Valencia scored the decisive goal as Boca Juniors hosted Defensa y Justicia in the final round of the Clausura. His goal in the 90+6th minute gave the home side a one-goal victory.
Rosario Central’s match against Estudiantes RC had finished before Boca’s game ended. Having won their own match, Rosario were left waiting, and Boca’s stoppage-time victory decided the title race. Rosario’s two-goal win was not enough to finish the season in first place.
Boca Juniors’ 36th title brought them closer to fierce rivals River Plate, who have 38 championships. The gap between the two clubs’ title totals is now two. Rosario Central began celebrating after a false report spread through the stands that Boca Juniors’ goal had been disallowed. According to Hürriyet, citing the newspaper La Nacion, shouts from the stands led players, coaching staff and supporters to believe they were champions. In fact, Boca’s goal stood and Rosario had finished second.
According to the sequence of events described in the report, those at Rosario first heard about Boca’s stoppage-time goal. After the disappointment that followed, word quickly spread that the goal had been disallowed. Fans entered the pitch, while players and coaching staff celebrated in the centre of the field. Some players also climbed into the stands to join the supporters’ celebrations.
Some Rosario supporters who knew Boca had won called relatives to find out what was happening. The celebrations ended as the result became known; according to Hürriyet’s account, joy gave way to sadness and anger. For Rosario Central, who had won their own match, the night’s outcome was ultimately confirmed by news from their rivals’ game. Enner Valencia scored in the 90+6th minute to secure a 1-0 victory over Defensa y Justicia.
Despite beating Estudiantes RC 2-0 on the final day, Rosario Central finished second, one point behind champions Boca Juniors, who had 63 points.
